Despite Lands and Environmental court giving government an okay to execute evictions in Mau Forest, President Uhuru Kenyatta seems to have changed tact.
With already over 7,000 families having been evicted, Uhuru is said to have invited Rift Valley leaders to State House for dialogue.
Konoin MP Brighton Yegon told the Nation that Uhuru has already invited Rift Valley leaders, who opposed the evictions vehemently.
“We have a date with the President this week over the ongoing operation to flush out families living in the Mau complex,” Mr Yegon said.
He added: “We have secured an appointment with President Kenyatta and we are awaiting confirmation of the particular day this will happen in the course of the week.”
The president's change of heart comes two days after meeting retired President Daniel Moi at Kabarak home for a closed door meeting.
Moi's son, Gideon Moi, who doubles as Baringo Senator, also vehemently opposed the evictions.
During his visit in the Mau, he vowed to meet the president over the matter.
"It is inhumane to kick our people out like this. I will personally meet the president and raise this matter."
Other leaders who openly opposed the evictions include Kipchumba Murkomen and Aaron Cheruiyot.
However, leaders from Maasai community insisted that the exercise must go on.
