The political supremacy battle between ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto will no doubt be the highlight of the 2022 election in the President Uhuru Kenyatta succession race.
The former Prime Minister has not openly declared his intention to make another stab at presidency come the next poll.
On the other hand, the DP is seen by many as the front runner to succeed President Kenyatta. As a result, he has been traversing the country pitching for his bid come 2022.
Consequently, Raila has become a casuality of Ruto's ambitious political moves especially in the Coast region where a good number of ODM MPs including Malindi lawmaker Aisha Jumwa have switched allegiance to Dr.Ruto- leaving Odinga politically exposed.
Should Raila turn to his former ally, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, to save him from Ruto's political sucker punches?
With the race to succeed Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho becoming wide open, can Balala try his luck once again and throw himself into the ring and bank on Raila's support?
Should that happen, Raila would have won a battle against Ruto in the battle for Coast. Balala is an experienced political operator despite his most recent struggles in the political arena. And any deal with Raila will be a game-changer in Coast politics.
