Over 2,000 Kiswahili teachers countrywide are set to benefit from training meant to equip them with better teaching skills.
The training, organized by Longhorn Publishers targets primary school teachers in all the 47 counties to equip them with best practices for teaching Kiswahili in a bid to improve the performance of the subject.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Tuesday during one of the workshops with teachers from Uasin Gishu county, renowned Kiswahili author, Wallah Bin Wallah who is spearheading the training challenged the Ministry of Education to put in place measures that will ensure all books for the new curriculum are published without any errors.
Wallah, author of Kiswahili Mufti series, both in the Old and New Curriculum and also Mazoezi na Marudio Mufti ya Kiswahili further said should there be errors in books published, the government and relevant institutions should be the ones to blame not publishers.
“We have government agencies mandated to ensure books supplied to schools are of the required quality so if there are the ones with errors, those institutions should take the blame,” he said.
The renowned author however reiterated the need for Kiswahili teachers to be well equipped noting that “It’s only by having qualified and well trained teachers will we be able to improve students’ performance in Kiswahili subject.”
On his part, Longhorn Publishers Regional Sales Manager Joseph Kuria said the training is also meant to drive awareness and adoption of the company’s new curriculum products in schools.
“The training is meant to equip the teachers with better teaching skills in light of the new curriculum developed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD),” said Kuria.
