The wave of schools being closed indefinitely in Nyanza due to students’ arrest seems to have taken a high gear.

Maranda Boys High School in Siaya County is the latest to be closed indefinitely.

This is after students protested due to what has been termed as mistreatment by the school administration. 

The students reportedly complained of strict boarding rules.

Siaya County Director of Education Japheth Masibo confirmed ordering the closure of the school indefinitely on Wednesday due to what he referred to as averting of chaos.

On Monday, Kisumu Girls High school was closed indefinitely after students’ unrest on Sunday evening.

“We had to close down the school because there was a lot of disturbance since Sunday evening. Their grievances touched on entertainment, freedom of worship and to some level, their food," said Kisumu County director for education Ms Sabina Aroni.

On Tuesday, Ng’iya girls’ high school in Siaya County was closed down indefinitely due to another case of students unrest.

Students reportedly rioted to push for the removal of one of their teachers.

 The unrest in Schools comes even as Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang warned students against causing unrest in schools, saying those found culpable will be treated as criminals.
