Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai has urged the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to deal with high cases of human-wildlife conflict in the constituency.
Mbai says cases of wildlife animals enchroaching into human settlements are alarming.
According to the MP, several residents have been injured and even killed by wild animals freely roaming the area.
In a phone interview on Saturday, the MP called on KWS to come up with measures to protect both locals and wildlife.
"It is a matter of serious concern and we hope that the KWS will take it up and guarantee safety of our people " he said.
According to residents, leopards and baboons are wrecking havoc in the cnstituency.
Residents complain that they are losing their goats and sheep to free roaming leopards and even lions.
On Friday, a three month-old baby was killed by a baboon at a vegetable farm in Inyuu village where her mother was tilting the land.
Confirming the incident, Inyuu Assistant Chief Sammy Mukuthu said the baby sustained serious injuries on the neck and legs.
She was rushed to Inyuu dispensary but pronounced dead on arrival.
According to the Chief, the baboon may have been hungry when it attacked the baby.
The body of the deceased was taken to Kitui Level 4 hospital for examination as angry residents launched hunt for the said baboon.
