Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo are currently in Cairo, Egypt.
The leaders traveled to the North African country to attend the 20th session of the Executive Committee of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA).
“Kisumu Governor, Prof P. Anyang’ Nyong’o and Speaker of the County Assembly, Hon Onyango Oloo are attending the 20th session of the Executive Committee of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA) in Cairo, Egypt,” reads part of a statement released by Kisumu County government spokesperson Aloice Ager on Tuesday.
“The county delegation, together with the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Hon Eugene Wamalwa, will make a presentation to the UCLGA executive committee on Kenya’s preparedness to host Africities Summit 2021,” Ager added.
In November last year, Kisumu was given the nod to host the 9th edition of the Africities Summit in November, 2021.
In April this year, UCLGA Secretary General Elong' Mbassi visited Kisumu to assess the county’s preparedness towards hosting the Africities Summit.
Kisumu will become the second Kenyan city to host the summit after Nairobi hosted the event in 2006.
The summit is expected to bring thousands of delegates to the lakeside city.
