Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto is among veteran politicians who lost re-election in the hotly contested August 8, 2017 general election.

Before the humiliating defeat in the Bomet gubernatorial poll, Ruto had crossed camp to the National Super Alliance (NASA) and even campaigned for NASA’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga who lost the election.
Weeks after Raila lost the presidential election and in the run-up to the October 26 repeat presidential election, Ruto in a surprising move dumped the National Super Alliance.
Now as the 2022 succession takes centre stage, Ruto is among political losers in Rift Valley who stand a higher chance of staging a political comeback.
The former governor who had fallen out with Deputy President William Ruto now enjoys a cordial relationship with him.
There are even allegations that DP Ruto has bought the former governors Chama Cha Mashinani party.
Ruto could easily make a comeback in 2022 owing to his political experience and aggressiveness.
He is considered the political kingpin in the South Rift region.

Ruto is being tipped to contest the Bomet governor seat in 2022.
The former governor is however yet to hint at whether he will be contesting for the Bomet county's top seat in 2022 polls.
