Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi has rubbished the claims that ODM Party leader Raila Odinga’s appointment to the African Union (AU) will stall the push for a referendum.
Mulyungi said Raila does not own the constitution and that the push to amend the law will continue with or without his support.
He said the referendum is not about the opposition leader.
“We will continue pushing to have the 2010 Constitution amended whether Raila supports it or not,” Mulyungi said.
Mulyungi addressed the press in his constituency on Wednesday.
He said Raila’s appointment as AU envoy will not change on how the country runs.
“It is a continental appointment and has nothing much to do with Kenyans and issues facing them,” he said.
Mulyungi maintained that referendum is a must for justice, fairness and equality leadership.
He said there is an urgent need to change the country’s system of governance.
The Wiper MP asked Kenyans to support the push for referendum stating that it is in their interests.
The debate on referendum continues to heat up with majority of politicians across the divide backing it.
However, there are some politicians among them Garissa Township MP Aden Duale who are opposing the plebiscite.
