Kuria joined active politics in 2013 when he won the Gatundu South seat in a by-election.

Kuria was elected unopposed after the death of Jossy Ngugi who had been elected in the 2013 polls.

Apart from politics, Kuria is a banker and a vocal human rights activist.

1. Auditor - Family Finance Bank 

Upon graduation as a banker, Kuria was employed as an auditor for the Family Finance Society.

He served as auditor until 1995.

2. Head of Credit - Standard Chartered Bank

He was employed by Standard Chartered Bank as head of credit facilities in 1995.

Kuria served in the position until 2006.

3. Chief operating officer - Wamad Infor Services Dubai

In 2007, Kuria was employed as an operating officer for Wamad Infor Services Dubai.

He served in the position until 2009.

4. Manager - Al Rajhi Bank, Saudi Arabia

In 2009, Kuria was employed as a manager at Al Rajhi, a Saudi based bank.

He served in the position until he declared interest in the Gatundu South parliamentary by-election in 2013.

Kuria is among MPs with vast knowledge in the baking industry and has often appeared on top television discussions on matters economy.

The Gatundu South MP is said to be considering to contest for a top position in the 2022 general election.

Kuria is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and has on several occasions assured the DP of Mt Kenya's support in his 2022 presidential bid.
