Nakuru youth have hit out at Governor Lee Kinyanjui accusing him of failing to address unemployment among the young people in the county.
Addressing media in Nakuru, the youths led by their chairman Daniel Gitau said unemployment is skyrocketing and the county government has not put any measures to address the situation.
“It is shocking that Nakuru County is one of the counties where majority of the youths are unemployed yet we have many industries. We want our governor to know that as youths we will not tolerate that. We want our youths to get jobs,” said Kimani.
The youths are now demanding that 80 percent of the employment slots in the county be set asides for them.
Similar sentiments were echoed by the youths coordinator Abdi Ismail who said the unemployment rate among youths in Nakuru County is alarming and this may result to high crime rate.
According to Abdi such will only be addressed if the county government works with speed to ensure a new CEC is in place for the docket of the Youths by February.
“The unemployment rate among youths in this county is alarming and we are calling on Governor Kinyanjui to look into it and ensure we have a CEC for the youth in office so that such can be addressed,” said Abdi.
On the forthcoming job interviews to be conducted by the current County Public Service Board, they questioned why the board was conducting the interviews yet their tenure was almost coming to an end.
“We are not against the board conducting interviews but why is it that they have waited till their tenure is coming to an end is when they want to conduct the interviews? We shall also re-visit the same,” said Kimani.
