Makueni residents have been urged to provide information that may aid in the ongoing investigations into the 17-year-old boy's murder in Kibwezi Sub-county.
Area county commissioner Mohammed Maalim said there are different versions about the incident being shared on social media and Whats App groups.
Maalim said the investigations are based on the police report.
"It's true a boy was killed in Tsavo West National Park while hunting but as per the police, an inquest file has been opened thus allowing those with contrary information to come forward and record statements. The matter is being handled with the weight it deserves," Maalim said.
He addressed the press in his office on Tuesday.
Maalim denied claims that the body was ferried to Mtito Andei police station by KWS officers as earlier reported.
"Police officers from Mtito Andei police station were the ones who went to search for the boy and came back with his body from the scene," he said.
He said the officers were also the ones who recovered a rifle Mac 4 make and a 303 bullet from the scene.
The residents held demonstrations and presented a signed memorandum to KWS officers in Mtito Andei on Monday.
They lamented that the officers value wildlife over human beings.
Led by former area MCA Nzilili, the locals have planned to hold a fundraiser meant for raising funds to sue KWS for killing the Form Four student.
Benedict Kyule was allegedly murdered by KWS rangers at Tsavo West National Park while hunting in company of another person who escaped with injuries last Friday.
Several leaders from Makueni County have called for prosecution of the officers who killed the boy.
Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior said extrajudicial killings will not be tolerated.
