Njonjo played a vital role in seeing that retired President Daniel Moi ascended to power amidst stiff opposition from the then all-powerful 'Kiambu mafias'.

The word Sir is a noun used to address any male if his name or proper address is unknown. It can also be used to address a man of higher rank or position.

Charles Njonjo had this monicker attached to his name which evoked both fear, power, command and respect.

He studied at Alliance High School where it is said that he rode a horse accompanied with native policeman escort. He then went to Fort Hale university in South Africa (the same university Nelson Mandela attended) where he studied law.

Before independence in Kenya, Njonjo was the only African who lived in exclusive Muthaiga neighbourhood which was by then a  reserve for whites.

His English mannerisms and love for British culture earned him the notorious title 'Sir Charle'.

The former AG is known for his striped suits which he wears with red lapel and has regularly stated he only buys his clothes from London.

This is how Njonjo's English mannerisms and immense love for British culture earned him the title 'sir'.
