Lydia Mumbi is said to have gone on a date with John Lucho on Sunday afternoon when the incident happened.

According to Mumbi, her boyfriend had assured her that he will take care of the bill.

"Before we came he told me he will treat me so I did not see any need of coming with money. I believed him and now I can't believe that he actually abandoned me in this place," Mumbi said while crying.

The restaurant which is based on the outskirts of Eldoret town along the Uganda Highway is popular for serving the who-and-whos' in the society hence its prices are slightly expensive.

Rael Cherop, a waitress at the hotel said the two had ordered chips with chicken together with soft drinks.

"When they walked in they took a table. I walked up to them and they ordered for chips and half chicken each. When they were done they ordered for soft drinks," Cherop explained.

It is after the waitress had submitted the receipt indicating the bill that the boyfriend disappeared.

The man had allegedly claimed he was going to the washroom before he disappeared. It took Mumbi half an hour to realize that she was now on her on.

"When he was gone for thirty minutes, that is when I knew something was wrong. I tried calling him but he wasn't picking," Mumbi narrated.

After hustling and making calls for almost an hour, she finally managed to raise Sh2,500. The hotel, however, insisted on getting the full amount. A good Samaritan walked up to her and offered clear the Sh500 balance.
