The government has made slight changes to the 2018 first term opening date.
According to a circular issued by Education CS Amina Mohammed, schools will now open on January 3, 2019.
Earlier reports had indicated that schools will resume on January 2, 2019. The circular stated that the adjustment is meant to give parents and students an ample time to travel to their destinations after the Christmas and New Year festivities.
“In order to allow time for learners and teachers who may have travelled to various places during the holiday season to return to their institutions, the opening day is rescheduled to 3rd January 2019,” the circular read.
The circular added that Form One admission will take place between Jauary 7 to 11.
Next year’s education calendar is expected to run for 38 weeks with the first term ending on April 5.
Also in 2019, the government will officially implement the new education curriculum. This comes amid confusion regarding the implementation of the curriculum that has been marred by controversy.
The ministry of education has maintained that the pilot project will continue running with teachers receiving training.
Stakeholders in the education sector have expressed concerns in regards to the country’ preparedness to handle the new system.
