The incident happened in Basale Village in Endebes on Monday night leading to the death of the class one pupil.

Neighbours narrated hearing wails and cries from the house where the two lived the previous night but dismissed it on the assumption that it was a small family issue.

They said they thought the boy whose mother was away at the time was being disciplined by his dad, only to wake up to reports of his death the next morning.

“I heard the boy screaming and crying and I thought he was being disciplined by his father. I was shocked to learn in the morning that he had been killed,” a neighbour told the Standard.

The incident was confirmed by Endebess Deputy County Commissioner Peter Maina who said that the boy, the first born in the family, might have been strangled to death.

“It is true the man beat and strangled his son. The suspect is in police custody and we are investigating the incident,” he said.

The police boss added that the suspect later reported the incident, claiming that the boy died from injuries he sustained after being attacked by unknown people on his way from school.

The boy was a class one pupil at Kibwoi Primary School.

The body of the deceased was moved to the Kitale County Mortuary as investigations take their course.
