Ngilu says the proposal by three Court of Appeal Judges must be opposed.

According to Ngilu, lowering sex consent to 16 years is an abuse on the well-being of teenagers and is likely to expose them (teenagers) to social evil.

In an interview on Musyi FM on Monday, Ngilu further said lowing sex consent will expose young girls and boys to immorality.

She said that matters sex are sensitive, adding that the rights of teenagers must not be infringed.

“The constitution clearly defines and protects the rights of minors and as the society we must stand by the law,” she said.

Governor Ngilu asked Kenyans to reject the proposal for the interests of young boys and girls.

Last week, Court of Appeal Judges Roselyn Nambuye, Daniel Musinga and Patrick Kiage said time has come for Kenya to rethink about its sexual laws.

In a ruling, the Judges said, “Our prisons are teeming with young men serving lengthy sentences for having had sexual intercourse with adolescent girls whose  consent has been held to be immaterial because they were under 18 years.

”The proposal by the Appellate Court Judges has elicited debate with as section of leader’s ganging up against it.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior is among politicians who have faulted the proposal.

Kilonzo Junior wants the sex consent age increased from 18 to 20 instead of lowering it.
