Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua claims that the inflated costs on roads hurt Kenyans.
Mutua urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure that contractors inflating costs of road construction are brought to book with immediate effect.
The second term governor said there is no way Kenyans will suffer at the expense of selfish contractors.
In a statement released to newsrooms on Monday, Mutua said Kenyans are suffering due to the rising cost of living.
Mutua asked the President to establish a commission of inquiry that will look into the matter with immediate effect.
“I am appealing to the President to set up a commission of inquiry into this alleged blatant theft of public money which has forced the country to hike taxes in order to service our external debts and foot the cost of our development projects,” Mutua said.
He further urged the national government to monitor the purchase of vehicles for high ranking officials in order to fight graft in different departments.
The governor warned officials in his government against attempting to misuse resources meant for the public for their selfish gain.
Mutua has been on the forefront in the fight against corruption.
