Kericho County Senator Aron Cheruiyot has strongly defended Deputy President (DP) William Ruto against hate speech accusations being levelled against him.
Speaking during an interview on NTV's AM Live on Tuesday, Cheruiyot said that Ruto's alleged hate remarks were taken out of context.
The Jubilee Senator further said that the statement by the Deputy President has been exaggerated to taint his name and image.
Senator Cheruiyot says that the DP did not insult the Luo community as some politicians are alleging.
"The sentiments made by DP Ruto were targeted at a specific person and it is unfair for leaders from the Luo community to make it look like it was meant for the entire tribe," the Kericho Senator said during the interview.
The Jubilee Senator added that DP Ruto's remarks did not mention or refer to the Luo community.
A section of politicians allied to the opposition has slammed Ruto over his alleged hate remark and even called for his investigation.
While addressing public over the last weekend, DP Ruto allegedly said that political behaviours of some leaders are well known and there is no need for entertaining them.
"These people who are giving us so many stories, we know them and they are well known for destroying. If they are not breaking political parties, then they are destroying houses, if not houses they are uprooting railways and if not railways then they are splitting friends, why should we entertain them?" the DP allegedly said.
