The latest success story emerged on Friday, when a third-year student at Kenyatta University, Fredrick Mburu, won Sh100,000 in a multi-bet on five matches.

Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah scored the winning goal for Egypt in the dying minutes of the match to give the home team a 3-2 win over Tunisia, a result which secured Mburu’s bet as it was the only team remaining on his multi-bet.

After the final whistle, Mburu could not hide his excitement as he narrated the events of the day.

“Mohammed Salah has saved me from stress. I had placed all my money on this bet. I knew Egypt was going to win but not that late. I had left the common room where we watch football knowing I had lost the bet. However, just before I entered my room, I heard other students cheering," said Mburu.

"I went back running and saw Salah shirtless. The score sheet was reading 3-2,” he added.

Mburu has revealed his plans of starting a business that will earn him more money to sustain himself while in school.

This is not the first time a Kenyatta University student has won such a huge amount from betting. During the 2018 World Cup in Russia, another student won over Sh200, 000.
