With the 2022 general elections already in sight, allegiances and political unions are expected to begin shooting up with time, especially for the presidential race.
One of the regions that will receive the most attention is the Luo Nyanza region, a vote-rich basket which has, however, remained stuck on opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Eyeing all or a portion of the votes plus the region's backing, convoys of Raila's rivals will soon start streaming down west to the Luo dominated region.
However, though nothing is wrong with that, the candidates must stick to some obvious rules while campaigning in a bid to steal Raila's votes in Raila's bedrock.
They will have to come up with clever criticism modes if they have to fire shots at the former Premier as the region is known to turn hostile against anyone seemingly bashing the leader.
Consequently, apart from missing out on the votes and backing, they could also be unceremoniously bundled out of the region by angry and offended pro-Raila voters.
Also, they will have to concentrate on the actual things ailing the region and shun empty politics. Luos are well-known intellectuals and selling them empty politics results in a shun.
To get the region's support they will have to address real issues like the increasing water hyacinth in Lake Victoria and how they plan to eradicate it.
This is the only way they can succeed in the politically volatile region.
Finally, they can both get an extra vote and avoid being kicked off by getting a few people from the region to act as their point men.
Going all alone will make them appear as misplaced and will not be able to even attract the people to come to listen to them.
