Furious elders in Sensi area in Kisii County have threatened to curse a middle-aged man who is opposed to the burial of his first wife.
Elders who convened for a special meeting on Tuesday said the 36-year-old man Samson Ondigi must accept his first wife Edinah Kwamboka to be buried at his home.
"Kwamboka has been legally married to Ondigi 7 years ago before they divorced due to the man's immoral behaviour. Now that she died after a short illness she must be buried at Ondigi's home because dowry was paid," said an elder Simon Nyabayo.
Mr. Nyabayo said Ondigi has until today evening, Wednesday to apologize to the village elders after he threatened to kill them.
"Ondigi must withdraw his threats and apologize to us and agree with the residents' decision to bury his deceased wife failure to which we will curse him and chase him away from the village," he noted.
Area chief Fredrick Omori said Ondigi who is polygamous will have no option rather than accepting the elders' decision.
"Ondigi's second wife must have put 'kamuti' so that he can oppose the burial of Kemunto. I am appealing to Ondigi to accept the majority decision instead of being cursed and chased away from the village," he stated.
