Political observes have noted that regions that previously backed the opposition may in the next election vote for the government-friendly side.

In this sense, counties that have supported the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga in the past elections may in 2022 throw their weight behind Deputy President William Ruto, the seemingly Jubilee heir-apparent.

And this was evident when the DP hosted leaders from Bungoma and Busia counties on Wednesday at his Sugoi home in Uasin Gishu County.

The delegation was led by Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong who asked Kenyans to rise above tribal and party politics and support Ruto's bid for State House.

Ojaamong, who is serving a second term on an ODM ticket, has a long close relationship with Raila, his party boss.

“We are past party politics. We would want to see working relationships forged among leaders,” said the Busia Governor, as reported by Deputy President Press Service (DPPS).

ODM Member of Parliament Geoffrey Omuse (Teso North) termed DP Ruto as visionary and pledged to work with him to realise his 2022 ambition.

Ruto's presidential bid was also endorsed by politicians allied to Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula's FORD-Kenya party who included Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga and Kabuchai MP James Lusweti.

“We want to work with a leader who is going to change the face of Kenya. A leader who is after empowering Kenyans. That is why I urge all leaders to unite and work with the Deputy President,” Lusweti noted.
