While appearing on Citizen TV, Sonko said that he was born a leader.

The first-term governor said that he was a leader in several prisons where he served jail terms for being linked to different crimes. He noted that he was a leader at Shimo La Tewa, Kamiti and Industrial Area remand prisons.

“I went to Shimo la Tewa prison and I was the leader for the ordinary block…I used to supervise how porridge was being distributed. I went to Industrial Area prison and I was the leader of C block…I was also a leader at Kamiti…” he said.

The governor further left tongues wagging when he revealed that he used to smoke bhang with his Kiambu counterpart Ferdinand Waititu. Sonko said that he is not afraid of talking about his past because it has inspired him to greatness.

He also warned corrupt county officials warning that he will jail any county official linked to any corrupt deal. The governor said that he will not tolerate anyone misusing funds meant for the public for his/her selfish gains as long as he remains in power.
