Following attempts by a section of Kalenjin elders to reconcile Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, KANU Secretary General Nick Salat has come out asking the DP to apologise to the Moi Family.
Salat says Ruto needs to apologise to the Moi family since he has been the one attacking the former first family.
“Our chairman, who is the Baringo Senator, is ready for any peace talks with DP Ruto but the elders who have shown that they would like to mediate between the duo must understand the genesis of the rift. DP Ruto should ask for forgiveness from the family of the former president because he is the one who has been saying unpalatable things about them,” Salat was quoted by the Daily Nation.
DP Ruto and Senator Moi, both eyeing the top seat have been asked to come together in order to increase the chances of having a Kalenjin president come 2022.
The elders have failed to bring the leaders together, accusing them of high ‘handedness,.’
“Both are our sons but have not listened to us. We have sought appointments through their personal aides and even approached them at public forums but in vain,” Myoot Council of Elders Chairman Maj (Rtd) John Seii was recently quoted by a local daily.
On the other hand, Salat reiterated that KANU will not accept any reconciliation that puts the Baringo Senator at a disadvantage.
With DP Ruto firmly fixed on clinching the top job come 2022, it remains to be seen what the two leaders will come up with as 2022 elections approach.
