For the better part of Sunday, normal business was interrupted in Modogashe town, Mandera county as locals engaged police in running battle.
Before police arrived in the area, members from the warring Ogaden and Borana communities had faced off, with a number of houses being torched and scores injured.
The twin communities were fighting over a watering point and grazing lands before police came in.
The coming of police officers further escalated the situation as members of the Ogaden community lit fires and erected blockades on the road leading to the town.
However, locals have attributed the renewed clashes between the Ogaden and Borana to incitement from area politicians.
According to a local elder who spoke to Hivisasa on condition of anonymity, the issue might further escalate if no further remedial measures are taken.
"Clashes here have been happening for years. Politicians are fanning and inciting their communities, and the government should decisively act," said the Borana elder.
By the time of getting to press, the tension was still high with heavy police presence.
