There is a trend where students quit attending church service once they join the university. Some end up never attending even a single church service while in the campus for four good years.
We sought to establish from some of the students in Eldoret town on the reasons behind this trend.
David Kimutai, a university student admitted that he has never attended a church service while in the institution. He attributes his reluctance to the freedom to either go to church or not they enjoy at the campus.
"At the university, I am absent from the watchful eyes of my parents who always get angry and harass me whenever I miss attending church," said Kimutai a third-year student.
Meshack Katam, another student said he used to attend church when he was a fresher at the campus but was suddenly surrounded by dormmates of different faiths and of no faith at all who diverted his Christian beliefs.
"My campus friends diverted my Christian doctrines and instead of going to church, we attend other events available at that moment," he said.
"I just go to church while at my rural home because in campus there are a lot of hypocrites. The so call 'church leaders' don't practice what they preach as have met some of them at nightclubs," claimed Joyline, another student at the Eldoret based university.
Another student who sought anonymity said she does not go to church because she is a sinner who does not want to repent now.
"I must enjoy life in my youthful years so repenting now is not possible because I don't want to be a hypocrite," said the student.
Most students' Christian doctrines and values deteriorate while in the campus and others end up losing their faith completely. It is absurd for the university and the community when the students who are expected to be role models for the younger generation lose their morals.
