Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has called for the arrest and prosecution of Principal Secretary, State Department of Energy Dr Eng. Joseph Njoroge over his involvement in the Kenya Power scandal.
Chemno says Njoroge was the Managing Director of Kenya Power when the company authorized contracts that are now a subject of corruption allegations.
"The PS was the MD. He holds key information about the contracts in question," said Chemno in Eldoret town, Thursday.
The Jubilee deputy governor said he fully supports ongoing fight against corruption but insisted that it should not be selective.
He wondered why the PS has not been questioned by detectives over the scam yet top current and former managers at the company have been arrested and charged.
"I support the president in this new commitment to fighting graft but we want a wholesome approach in the process. Those who were there and those who were not there should be investigated and prosecuted," he said.
Former Kenya Power managing director Ben Chumo and his successor Ken Tarus among other top officials have already been arrested and charged over procurement of defective transformers and the irregularities in prequalifying 525 companies for labour and transport contracts.
Through the two contracts, Kenyans lost Sh470 million besides the inconvenience the defective transformers have caused.
