The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has asked Kenyans to be patient while investigations into the shooting of former Garissa finance CEC Idriss Mukhtar are ongoing.
Mr Haji pleaded with Kenyans to also stop speculations as detectives continue investigations into the murder of former Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
Speaking during a press conference in Mombasa, Mr Haji said detectives should be given enough time to conduct their investigations to ensure the culprits involved in the two incidents are arrested and prosecuted.
The DPP also called on politicians to stop politicising and interfering with matters under investigations.
“The constitution is very clear that we are independent offices just like judiciary. We take no directions from anybody and thus for politicians, they should keep off and shut up because this is coercion and intimidation to investigating bodies,” he said.
DPP Haji said that his office will not hesitate to arrest anyone regardless of their status in the society or political influence if they are linked in the killing.
“One thing that I want to assure is that there is no sacred person that will be spared in this murder case, whether you are a governor or not you will have to face the law to the fullest extent,” added Mr Haji.
The former Garissa CEC was shot in the head and left for dead outside a hotel in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.
Mr Mukhtar was rushed to Nairobi Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition and he is still in ICU.
The body of Sharon Otieno, who was seven months pregnant, was discovered with eight stab wounds in Kodero Forest, Homa Bay County last week shortly after she was abducted.
