ODM blogger Dikembe Disembe now claims that Deputy President William Ruto has embarked on plans to frustrate President Uhuru Kenyatta in his Mt Kenya backyard.
In a tweet Friday, Disembe claimed that the DP could be the force behind many upcoming Kikuyu songs done with an intention of swinging the region in his favour ahead of the much-awaited 2022 general elections.
He said that suspicions are high in the region that the DP is sponsoring local musicians to do such songs, ahead of his presidential bid.
"There is something DP Ruto does that’s more annoying to the system than even his loose talk. There are those in the Mt. Kenya group who believe the DP is sponsoring Gikuyu musicians to do 'hit songs' on Pres. Uhuru or his regime. Fellows like Kamande wa Kioi! 'Jeshi ti Ngenu'," he wrote.
This comes amid an apparently widening rift between the President and his deputy, with Uhuru going silent on Ruto's ambitions, despite repeatedly declaring that he would endorse him ahead of the 2013 and 2017 polls.
However, Ruto has since said that he will not wait for anyone's endorsement but will go all out in a bid to woo Kenyans into voting in favour.
Ruto is likely to vie on the Jubilee Party ticket.
