Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is in trouble again after police officers shot and injured a Boda boda rider in Kenyenya, Kisii Country on Monday night.
Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has claimed that Mr. Matiang'i should move with speed to ensure police officers misusing their guns while at work are apprehended and prosecuted.
"It is unfortunate that Matiang'i despite his hard work has not managed to bring sanity in the police force. How can armed police officers shoot an innocent rider? It is time Matiang'i to act to ensure the officer who shot the rider is nabbed," he said.
Maangi argued that it was by the grace of God the victim didn't die after the shooting.
"The victim is in hospital receiving treatment and it was by God's grace he survived. Let Matiang'i focus on transforming the police force," said Maangi.
The Deputy Governor warned police officers against using excessive force on residents adding that the work of police officers is to protect Kenyans from external attacks by enemies.
He reiterated that police should stop shooting unarmed people carelessly.
"Police should maintain a good working relationship with members of the public to fight crime," he added.
