When he visited Githunguri over the week, DP Ruto stepped out of his guzzler when he saw maize being roasted on the roadside.
As he was buying, one of his bodyguards pushed the seller, catching the eye of the country's second-in-mind.
Ruto immediately chastised him, telling him that it was not time for work.
He bought the bodyguard maize too.
This was revealed by Joseph Mutua who sold the roasted maize to Ruto.
"He tried to push me but Ruto told him that it was not time for work and told him to take roasted maize," Joseph Mutua said.
The photo that showed the DP buying maize caused a storm of controversy on social media as many people alleged that it had been stage-managed.
DP Ruto is reputed to have a strong appetite for boiled and roasted maize.
