It now emerges that Friday’s meeting between retired President Daniel Moi and Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) leader Kalonzo Musyoka was meant to take place months prior.

According to the Nation, the meeting termed as one to enable Moi to personally condole with Kalonzo over the death of his father Peter Mairu who was buried a week ago could be another political stunt ahead of the 2022 general polls.

The paper reports that the meeting whose preparations have been in progress for several months was initially meant for September, 2 months to Mairu’s death.

Among the planners were Moi’s son and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and his Kitui counterpart and Kalonzo’s ally Enock Wambua, both of whom were present on Friday.

Also, details indicate that the meeting which was held at Moi’s iconic Kabarak home in Nakuru county had been pushed to December, before the aging ex-Head of State personally picked the date for this month.

And coming at a time when political temperatures are already rising with the 2022 elections still 4 years away, Moi has since reportedly directed the Kenya Alliance of National Union (KANU) party to reach out to Kalonzo for coalition talks.

The leadership of the party under which Moi ruled for 24 years currently lies in the hands of Gideon.

This is a demonstration that the meeting might have been more about politics than the communicated reason.

During the meeting, Kalonzo briefed Moi on his roles as the new chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission for South Sudan, promising to keep in touch on his moves and achievements.

Moi on his side called for political sincerity and unity among Kenyan leaders.

"Some of you will be presidents and ministers in charge of the country. You need to take time and know the whole country and develop friendship," he is quoted by the Nation.https://www.nation.co.ke/news/politics/Succession-politics-Moi-Kalonzo-Tosha/1064-4855662-sbxjcn/index.html

Other political leaders who have visited Kabarak this year include opposition leader Raila Odinga, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
