Accommodation in most universities in Kenya has always been a menace as most campuses recruit more students than their capacity can hold.
Latest to suffer this bad fate are first year students from Pwani University who have been invaded by bedbugs barely three months after being admitted into the facility.
The students, who stay within the school hostels revealed that bedbugs started invading some rooms barely two weeks after admission, forcing them to device tactics for survival.
"Block one and two which are for male students were the most affected and block three for ladies. Block six was the least affected," David Nyongesa, one of the students revealed.
The situation made students to spread their mattresses in the sun to reduce the bedbug effect with no one to solve their grievances since their student union leaders were on holiday.
However, after a prolonged outcry from the 'freshers', the school administration came to their rescue and bought pesticides to control the situation though this never bore realistic fruits since at least 40% are still suffering.
Most students have lost hope staying within the premises and are now seeking refuge outside the campus.
"Actually I never expected this to happen in campus and we are really embarrassed. We ask the admin to act fast to end this shame," said another student.
