Hussein says parents and guardians will be disappointed if they release their kids to school on Thursday.

Speaking to journalists in Masalani Ward on Monday, the Garissa KNUT official said that teachers will not be in class from January 3, 2019.

He said that it will be better and safe if parents remain with their school-going children at home.

"The teachers strike set to start on Thursday, January 3, 2019, is still on and we advise parents to stay with their children at home since there will be no learning going on," he said.

Hussein said that all teachers under the KNUT umbrella in Garissa will be on strike.

He denied claims that the planned teachers strike is meant to punish students.

KNUT Secretary General, Wilson Sossion insists that the planned teachers strike set to start on January 3, 2019, is still on.

The teachers union says that it will only call off the strike if the Teachers Service Commission addresses its concerns.

KNUT is against the mass transfer of teachers.

The Wilson Sossion led teachers' union is accusing TSC of allegedly using the mass transfer to punish teachers.

Two weeks ago, Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ukur Yattani formed a conciliatory committee to dialogue with the teachers union.

The committee met with KNUT last Saturday but the meeting was not fruitful.

On Monday, the Employment and Labour Court sitting in Nairobi issued an order stopping the teachers strike until when a case filed by TSC is heard and determined.

KNUT has,  however, vowed to go on with the planned strike.

The planned teachers strike could see learning in public schools paralysed.
