However, speaking during K24's Punchline on Sunday, former Gatanga MP David Murathe has said President Uhuru Kenyatta was not involved in the saga.

Asked on whether President Kenyatta was involved in the allegation of locking the DP  out of the Mombasa residence, Murathe denied it.

"No. The President is not involved in those administration matters," Murathe answered.

Meanwhile, Ruto's deputy spokesman Emmanuel Talaam maintains that politics are behind what happened.

“He spent (the night) at his usual place when in Mombasa, which is at the English Point Marina. The DP’s residence is complete and ready to be occupied. Probably someone is unhappy that the DP will have a base to coordinate his activities at the coast if he moves in. It is all politics,” he said.

The allegation has attracted varied reaction. DP Ruto's allies have painted it as a move out to intimidate him. However, Government spokesperson Col (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna, says that whether the issue happened or not is not a matter that deserves national debate.
