The debate surrounding controversial contraband sugar took a new twist on Saturday after a section of Gusii leaders ganged against Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
Last week, Matiang'i recanted his early claims that the sugar contained dangerous mercury elements thus causing fears among the consumers.
"It was just precaution. There was no mercury only that it was contaminated."
But Matiang'i's statement contradicted a letter from KEBs copied to DCI George Kinoti which had earlier confirmed presence of the dangerous metal.
And ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire now wants Matiang'i to apologise to Kenyans by first resigning.
"It is quite unnecessary for Matiang'i to contradict himself. He must resign and apologise to Kenyans.
" He should take responsibility for gambling with lifes of Kenyans," said the former Kitutu Masaba MP.
Just before Matiang'i's U-tern, Kinoti had insisted that he was ready to confirm the mercury assertions in court.
