Businesses came into stand still at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Wednesday evening after a passenger allegedly sounded a false alarm of bomb scare, reports the Standard.
A Johannesburg bound plane had to delay it's flight when the passenger reportedly sounded the alarm, forcing those on board to swiftly alight due to security reasons.
The commotion started when a man engaged a flight attendant in a heated argument before mentioning the word 'bomb', thus causing tension within the plane.
Police were forced to arrest the man as search and frisking was imposed to those on board and the plane to ascertain the claims from the make passanger.
Officials, who were not ready to take chances with the incident, hurriedly closed down the largest airport in East and Central Africa, paralysing operations for hours.
Most flights were diverted to other Airports across the country as the authorities intensified search to retrieve the alleged bomb before it emerged that it was a false alarm.
Terrorists last bombed a building in Kenya in 1998, killing over 200 people at the US embassy in Nairobi. Since then, the attacks have focused on business stalls and malls across Kenya.
The scare came just few days after Al-Shabaab militants descended Mandera County, abducting two Cuban doctors, who were posted in the North Eastern county.
