A section of MPs allied to the DP have been claiming that the Friday by-election was a race between Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga and Ruto and saying that Mawathe represented the Ruto side.

But speaking on Thursday, Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka rubbished the claims, terming the people spreading the rumour as people seeking to take the credit.

Kalonzo strongly rubbished any chances of Ruto having played any role in Mawathe's win, including funding his campaigns.

"I want to put the record straight that this was a WDM win and not anybody else’s or any political grouping other than WDM.

If there is wrangling in Jubilee they should not bring it to us, we intend to move and build this movement and win political power come the next General Election," he was quoted by the Nation.

Musyoka was speaking at the party headquarters in Nairobi on Thursday.

He thanked the Jubilee Party for withdrawing its candidate, and as well expressed his gratitude to fellow opposition blocs Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya for rallying behind Mawathe in the mini-election.

Wiper was however forced to battle it out with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) which rejected calls to stand down, proceeding to front former area MP Irshad Sumra as its candidate.

Sumra came a distant second.
