Paul Njoroge has confessed to killing Collins Waweru Njambi, after his mother refused to include his name (Njoroge) in the boy's birth certificate.

Njoroge was reportedly irked when his wife told him that he intended to register the boy using his biological father's name.

The suspect is said to have then followed the boy to his aunt's home in Ndutumi, Kiharu constituency, and slashed him with a machete.

Confirming the incident, Muranga County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua said that the accused attacked the deceased in the presence of the aunt who then escaped to call for help.

“The suspect was determined to kill the child because when the aunt ran away, he forced himself into the house and slashed the deceased severally leaving him for the dead and without touching a cousin of the deceased whom they were sleeping with," the police boss told the Thursday Nation.

The police added that the suspect had already fled the scene by the time the aunt returned with neighbours, leaving behind his killer weapon, a cap and his identification card.

After the arrest, the suspect based his actions on his differences with his wife, adding that he never thought the boy would die in the attack.

"I was very depressed and furious but I was very remorseful after committing the act,” he said.

Kinyua added that the suspect will be arraigned to face murder charges.
