In a tweet, Mutua stated that legislators in Kenya are heavily guarded compared to their counterparts in the United States.

"Only 9 members of Congress and senators out of 535 are protected by official bodyguards. But every Kenyan legislator is protected by several policemen," he tweeted

He further noted that all officers attached to the Very Important Persons (VIPs) should be withdrawn promptly in order to offer security to the general public as envisaged in the constitution of Kenya (2010).

"Withdraw all so-called VIP security," he added.

Last week, the government recalled security officers attached to Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, MPs;  Kimani Ichungwa, Alice Wahome, and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika.

The withdrawal according to Police Spokesman Charles Owino is aimed at redeploying and reassigning duties to the officers.

The MPs termed it political witch hunt since they are inclined to Deputy President William Ruto with Kandara MP Alice Wahome linking Interior CS Fred Matiangi and PS Karanja Kibicho to the act.
