Speaking Matayos constituency on Saturday, the Senior Counsel said that he is justified to be away, judging by the nature of his post.

Wako maintained that his job is not to sit in the county but rather to oversee the usage of public coffers, adding that so far he has performed well.

“I am not a governor, MP or MCA, who always has to be on the ground. My role is to oversee and ensure prudent use of public resources.

This is the reason many suspects are in court over embezzlement of funds," he is quoted by the Nation.

He was speaking during the homecoming ceremony of Nang'oma Location Chief Helen Ngome.

The lawmaker who is a member of the 14-member Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Taskforce also lauded the March 9 truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta, noting that it has indeed restored peace and calm.

He urged the two leaders to devolve the same to the counties, giving an example of Busia which he said was largely affected by the post August 8 wrangles.

“I appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga to devolve their handshake to the grassroots.

A number of counties, including Busia, were seriously affected by the aftermath of last year’s elections,” he added.

According to Wako, the two leaders should strive to ensure that the entire nation feels included in their ceasefire.
