Sitting and former politicians are working on strategies that will help them win favourite seats in the upcoming general election.

In Ukambani, the succession debate is raging on as top politicians eye to succeed Governor Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui).

Governor Mutua and Kibwana are serving there last terms in office and are yet to hint on their possible successors.

Ngilu, on the other hand, is serving her first term and is likely to defend the seat in 2022 polls.

Among top politicians said to be eyeing the governor seats in Ukambani are vocal Members of Parliament (MPs).

Here are vocal Kamba MPs who are likely to be governors in 2022.

1. Vincent Musyoka Musau

The Mwala legislator is a close ally of Governor Alfred Mutua.

He was re-elected in the 2017 general election on Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap Party.

Musyoka is among vocal politicians in Machakos and is likely to be endorsed by Mutua for the top seat in 2022.

2. Gideon Mulyungi

A political rival of governor Charity Ngilu, Nyamai is serving her second term in office.

She is among few MPs who won re-election in Ukambani on Jubilee Party ticket in the 2017 polls.

Nyamai is likely to contest the Kitui top seat in 2022 polls.

The Makueni Town MP is serving his second term in office.

A close ally of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Maanzo is likely to bid for the Makueni governor seat in 2022.
