Former presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot has claimed that NASA leader Raila Odinga tried to stop him from taking part in the October 26 repeat elections.
In a report by Nation, Aukot said that Raila and other NASA leaders persuaded him not to vie against Uhuru in order to create a constitutional crisis.
However, the Thirdway Alliance boss claimed he was nearly persuaded out of the race by an insistent Raila.
“Raila Odinga lobbied me not to participate in the election under the understanding that if I boycotted like he had done, it would cause a constitutional crisis because, according to him, Mr Kenyatta would not have competed against himself,” Aukot said.
After looking at the matter, Aukot said that he resolved to vie due to a number of reasons.
"I explained to them that if Uhuru fails to get a challenger, he would be declared the winner as it happened to Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, among others. There was a precedent but these people thought that they were going to pocket and control me,” he added.
After the nullification of the August election by the Supreme Court, IEBC was compelled to hold a repeat presidential poll.
However, Raila withdrew from the race claiming that the playing ground was still not fair.
