Expectations are high among members of pastoralist communities following the launch of a local news website by the Garissa Township MP Aden Duale.
In a statement on Facebook, Duale said the website (wafugaji.co.ke) will focus on matters affecting pastoralist communities.
"During an Iftar dinner hosted by Arkmedia that brought young Somali professionals, activists, governance experts, renowned bloggers, businessmen, academicians and leaders from the pastoral communities for the launch of the first ever wafugaji.co.ke which will report and highlight issues affecting the pastoralist communities," he posted.
Speaking during the launch, Duale urged locals to shun the narrative of marginalization, adding that the Jubilee government had done much to empower the region.
"We can no longer sell the narrative of being marginalized after receiving 160 billion annually as 14 pastoralist counties in the last 7 years under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta," he said.
The Wafugaji news website will now rival other online media platforms from the region that are struggling to meet reader demands.
Other news websites from the region include Kulanpost, Nepjournal among others.
