One thing that is almost certain is that DP Ruto's name will be on the presidential ballot come 2022 provided he is alive.

In Kenya's history,  a presidential candidate is likely to choose a running mate from a different region to where is from. 

If he will choose from the Western part of Kenya, these are likely candidates. 

1. Ken Lusaka 

The Senate speaker and former Bungoma county governor has a good pedigree as a leader. 

Starting from administrative positions he rose to become Senate speaker,  a reward he was given for standing with Jubilee in an area perceived opposition stronghold. 

2. Ababu Namwamba 

Ababu is foreign affairs chief administrative secretary and was former Budalangi legislator. 

He will bring the youthful blood that has been appealing to the Kenyan electorate in recent years.

3. Eugine Wamalwa 

He has served in different positions as cabinet secretary in Jubilee government. 

He was formerly water and irrigation cabinet secretary and currently devolution cabinet secretary. 

His loyalty to Jubilee offers him an added advantage. 

4. Boni Khalalwe 

The former Kakamega County senator has of recent days changed turned to become DP Ruto's supporter. 

The DP can decide to reward the "bullfighter" with running mate position if he proves his worth. 

5. Wycliffe Oparanya 

The Kakamega governor who recently was voted as Council of Governors chairman has a strong political base in western. 

Although he is ODM deputy party leader,  the handshake offers an opportunity for DP Ruto to look for him as likely running mate. 

6. Johnson Sakaja

Like Ababu,  he will bring the youthful attribute to DP Ruto's camp. 

The Nairobi senator is not known for any drama but is very clear and sober whenever he acts or speak.

 He can be an asset to Ruto

7. Sospeter Ojaamong

The Busia governor has got "numbers" from Busia County.

Recently he was among western leaders that visited DP Ruto in his rural in a move vied by many as early preparations for 2022.
