Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i has assured Kenyans that no one will die of hunger and starvation.
Matiang'i says the government has taken proper measures to cushion Kenyans from hunger and starvation caused by prolonged drought in some parts of the country.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the community dialogue at Mkunguni square in Lamu on Thursday, Matiang'i maintained no Kenyan in Baringo and Turkana has died of hunger as being reported in some sections of the media.
"No Kenyan will die of hunger because we have put in place proper measures to ensure areas badly hit with drought get relief food," he said.
The Interior CS said the country has enough food to feed Kenyans, adding that relief food is being airlifted to affected counties.
Matiang'i said the government is keenly monitoring several counties with aim of responding swiftly to the drought situation.
According to the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) several counties are facing hunger and starvation as a result of prolonged drought.
The counties include Baringo, Turkana, Kilifi, Makueni, Kitui, Tana River, Isiolo, Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Lamu, Elgeyo Marakwet.
On Tuesday, Deputy President William Ruto confirmed that no Kenyan has died of hunger in Baringo and Turkana.
The DP said the government will not allow Kenyans to die of starvation.
A section of politicians among them Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has made foodstuff donations to Turkana and Baringo residents who are facing starvation.
