Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Midavadi has responded to Deputy President William Ruto's latest political salvo at his political competitors.
Speaking at his home in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu county on Wednesday, the DP his out at his rivals for the 2022 presidential race for relying on endorsements.
But in a statement Thursday, Mudavadi termed the remarks as a sign of panic after what seems as a failure by the DP to acquire President Uhuru Kenyatta's endorsement which be badly needs.
"Let him stop moving around the country talking about imaginary politicians seeking to be endorsed by Jubilee yet it is him and his supporters who are dying to get President Uhuru Kenyatta's nod in 2022," said Mudavadi, according to the Nation.
He faulted Ruto for clinging on the endorsement debate yet he is the one who has been trying to force Uhuru to pay back the support he (Ruto) gave him in his twin elections in 2013 and 2017.
"The talk of paying political debts is synonymous with the DP inventing some form of debts owed by communities wherever he goes.
"The DP is using all manner of unorthodox tricks to force President Kenyatta to endorse him,” he added.
Ruto's remarks follow a bashing from Jubilee Party Vice Chair David Murathe who hinted in Vihiga earlier that the party might endorse Mudavadi for the top seat in 2022.
This was despite an alleged pact between President Uhuru and Ruto that his side would back Ruto's bid in exchange in the much anticipated race.
Ruto has since clarified that he will not depend on an endorsement from any quarters but is ready to fight his way to the Statehouse.
