Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has reminded his colleagues that the Division of Revenue Bill stalemate is likely to plunge their counties into a financial crisis.
Speaking in Meru County at the weekend, Sonko said that it is high time governors reconsidered their stand over the matter for the sake of the development of projects in their backyards.
The first-term county boss reminded the governors that there is a need for them to respect the request of President Uhuru Kenyatta as far as the issue is concerned.
He said that Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in government, is ready to assist governors, adding that there is the need for them to support him fully in the quest to make this nation better.
Uhuru had said that Sh316 billion was available and not Sh335 billion as requested by the governors
“Let us accept what is available for now, the continued push and pull between Senators and the National Assembly will only derail development in Counties,” said Sonko, as quoted by Capital FM.
The governor also reminded his fellow county boss to utilize the resources at their disposal so that they can develop their regions. He said that it will take commitment for them to reach their dreams.
The governor, who is committed to attaining his goals before he completes his term, also said that the Country is facing challenges and counties must capitalize on the resources at hand for economic empowerment of the people.
