Nakuru Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party vice chair Joseph Akech has accused Governor Lee Kinyanjui’s administration of ethnic discrimination when offering jobs.
Aketch was speaking during an exclusive interview with Hivisasa in Nakuru town.
Referring to the truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, Akech said ‘the handshake is not working in Nakuru’.
“Handshake is not working in Nakuru. As you can see, in the appointments made (by Governor Lee) there is no Luo. Even the few who were made board members of hospitals are only those who campaigned for him. Here, the handshake is not working,” Akech said.
The ODM official also claimed that ‘more qualified staff’ who are perceived to be ardent NASA supporters are working under ‘less qualified’ bosses in the Nakuru county government.
“Even our people who are well qualified are working below people who are less qualified. Why? Why? There is no handshake in Nakuru,” he added.
The vocal party official called on the county boss to ‘right the wrongs’ by appointing at least one minister from the ODM party in the spirit of the handshake.
“Let him give us even just one minister, just one,” he said.
President Uhuru made a truce with his political rival Raila on March 9, 2018, which led to a paradigm shift in Kenya’s political scene.
Raila was Uhuru’s rival in the 2017 presidential race which saw the country divided into two factions – Jubilee and ODM.
The truce has, however, cooled political temperatures in the country.
The Nakuru ODM vice chair says the handshake should, therefore, trickle down to the grassroot.
