Since Inooro FM went on air 15 years ago, he has been the radio station's main and somehow solo sports presenter.
Straight from a drycleaning job to becoming one of the most celebrated radio sports personality in Gikuyuland, Jeremiah Kimani popularly known as Referee Mwenyewe, has without a doubt proved that passion can take you beyond your wildest expectations.
Kimani who presents Inooro's sports news 'Tuba Wa Mathako' and a weekly sports analysis show (Kwanduka) every Saturday from 4pm-8pm, goes on record as the longest-serving sports presenter on Kikuyu radio.
This, therefore, begs the question, how has Referee Mwenyewe, a strong AIPCA church faithful, managed to overcome the tides and media whirlwinds to be where he is?
We make some few observations.
1. Passion
The only thing that can make you leave your comfort zone to venture into uncharted waters, is only passion. Listening to the former dry cleaner present sports on the radio, you will feel the passion and love for sports in his voice. As a result, sports fanatics are obsessed with him and can't just get enough of his shows.
2. Humility
You might ask yourself how humility and being a successful radio/media personality relate. Well, many high flying media personalities in Kenya and beyond have been brought down by pride and inflated egos after they allowed 'little fame' to get into their heads.
Many who knows Kimani at a personal level will tell you that despite his 'big name', he keeps a low profile while mentoring other upcoming sports personalities on and outside Kikuyu radio.
3. Loyalty to the brand
To work in one place for over 15 years is not an easy affair, however, much you like your job. It is even harder when you are a well-known media personality because other media houses and non-media organizations keep on throwing 'sweeter baits' to you from time to time.
The fact that Kimani has not yielded to such advances, means that he is loyal and true to the Inooro brand.
